Jerome Moriarty II Professorial Lecturer School of International Service

Bio
J. Thomas Moriarty II is a professorial lecturer at the School of International Service. Over the years, he has served as a policy adviser and consultant to the Department of Defense and the US Senate Armed Services Committee on counterterrorism, national security policy, and defense modernization strategies. He was also a visiting scholar and fellow at the Institute for Security and Conflict Studies within the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University and a US foreign policy research associate at the Council on Foreign Relations. His teaching and research focuses broadly on the field of strategic studies, especially US national and security strategy, defense reform, and military history. Tom has been invited to speak at government, military, and academic institutions around the world. His research can be found in such journals as Small Wars and Insurgencies, Foreign Affairs, and World Affairs Journal. He is a former intelligence officer for the US Air Force, who has deployed to numerous locations, including countries within the Middle East and Asia. He is also a Defense Council member at the Truman National Security Project.
