Join us听on Wednesday, February 19th from 6pm to 7pm at听the Doyle-Forman Theater in the McKinley Building, as Professor Sherri Williams discusses her groundbreaking book, "Black Social Television: How Black Twitter Changed Television." Explore the dynamic influence of Black digital activism on media and how shows like ABC's Scandal and events like Club Quarantine reshaped viewing habits.听
Curious about what happens behind the scenes of a podcast? Join us at the Media Production Center for a hands-on experience creating an episode of Media in the Mix featuring SOC Dean Marnel Niles Goins. You'll develop video content, set up lighting, mic talent, and record the episode鈥攁ll while gaining real-world podcasting skills to boost your resume.

How data surveillance, digital forensics, and generative AI pose new long-term threats and opportunities鈥攁nd how we can use them to make better decisions in the face of technological uncertainty.听滨苍听The Secret Life of Data, Aram Sinnreich and Jesse Gilbert explore the many unpredictable, and often surprising, ways in which data surveillance, AI, and the constant presence of algorithms impact our culture and society in the age of global networks. The authors build on this basic premise: no matter what form data takes, and what purpose we think it's being used for, data will always have a secret life. How this data will be used, by other people in other times and places, has profound implications for every aspect of our lives鈥攆rom our intimate relationships to our professional lives to our political systems.听

Join us for a pizza lunch and a presentation on exploration in Antarctica with 麻豆视频作品SOC Journalism Senior Gabe Castro-Root. Gabe will talk about his 10-day journey last month to the planet鈥檚 southernmost continent, which he visited alongside renowned figures including astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, journalist Ann Curry and astronaut Scott Kelly. Gabe will also show his extraordinary photos and videos, and talk about the role of environmental journalism in understanding how climate change, and potential solutions, are playing out in Antarctica. The lunch and presentation will be in the Media Innovation Lab (first floor) of the McKinley Building on the 麻豆视频作品campus on Wednesday, Jan. 29 from noon to 1 p.m.
